Nikiri nods, "well... because of my mother's side being who they are, our family line not having abilities that can do anything, and everyone knowing I'd grow up to be your advisor I was allowed to do something no other demon could do. Go to the human district with some guards and experience how human society operates."

Arakan tenses, " interesting. i was unaware such a thing had ever happened. I wonder if they thought they would try and groom you so you'd pull the strings behind me for them." he muses.

Nikiri snorts softly, "no. They didn't want the next leader that they had to deal with to be like your father. They didn't want you to know anything but they also didn't want you to be stubborn during meetings. They figured I could keep you from doing something foolish. So for a month I was led to the gates by my parents, 5 guards signed me out and brought me everywhere to see how humans behaved. Then just before sunset I was brought back to my parents and they did a thorough check to make sure I didn't have any injuries. I did learn some things. Probably not what they wanted me to learn but I'm the kind of person that is better at finding out what I'm not being shown."

Nikiri sighs, "it was clean, modern, and put together but it was suffocating if I'm being honest. But I did end up learning something very important. Everything that the every day human does and consumes on a content level is controlled by their government. Tiny humans who go to school stand up every morning and recite some weird pledge to a piece of fabric and are forced to sit in uncomfortable seats all while learning during ungodly early hours. And the history books are all false. Putting demons in a bad light... I asked where the school sources their materials and I was told that public schools are funded by the government so I didn't question it further. Then I was showed around some private schools and they were learning the same things so I asked about their source materials and lo and behold the private schools are funded by government officials so... the government."

Arakan raises an eyebrow, " what in the actual hell? they recite a pledge to some fabric? i knew they were given shit information since Takana told me, though i suspected that was probably the case prior, just had no idea how bad it was. sounds like this government shit thing needs to be gotten rid of. at least among us a bad leader can be gotten rid of by their own district if the demons band together, or by another leader if need be. or used to anyway before we were separated."

"That's not all. Their news stations are controlled by the government as well. We were walking down the sidewalk to our next destination and there was a store with some tvs in the window and the news was on it and I couldn't help but stop and watch a little bit since I was curious about how humans got their information. They were talking about an incident we had a few days prior. You remember right? That little girl who didn't show any signs of having abilities. She was only 8 and she caught a cold, started sneezing and all of a sudden blue fire was coming out of her mouth with every sneeze and it caught fire to some flammable items. I wasn't there but I had heard she was a blubbering mess. Not feeling good from being sick, then she can't help but use powers which causes her to be shocked, things are set on fire and she thinks she's in trouble and is going to be taken away. I felt for her. I know it caused enough smoke for the humans to see so yeah. A news piece was done on the smoke but it was an entirely different story. An anarchist running around setting things on fire and we decided to let some things burn because we didn't know how to put it out. I was bewildered when I heard that and the humans around me were too but for different reasons. Stories like that made them think we were wild. Like we didn't know water put out fires. It was ridiculous, it's a no wonder humans thought we couldn't do anything civil."

Arakan stares at him incredulously, " you're joking right? Please tell me you're joking. Fucks sake ... They think we're no more than animals, don't even know how to put out a fire. As if my father or I couldn't do it with the wave of a hand." He shakes his head.

Nikiri shakes his head, "not joking. It was an eye opening realization. From school all the way to adulthood humans are told false stories about us and since they are not allowed to enter our district they had no reason to think they were being lied to. It's why when takana first came here I was excited. I thought we finally had a chance for a human to see what's really going on. No government controlling the narrative. It's also why I insisted on being in charge of him when he first came here."

Arakan snarls softly, " I doubt they'll be happy that the district is being opened to her man visitors soon then. I was already taking steps to make sure they'd be safe but I need to be even more careful. I wouldn't put it past them to arrange for a human to be killed, or try to set up a situation where a demon feels threatened. Then they'd have a reason for a war again."

Nikiri shrugs, "this was also roughly a decade ago. A shame my parents stopped allowing me to go. It wasn't bad. Weird but my information is dated now."

" they had good reason im sure." Arakan sighs, " regardless, im certain you could ask Yori and get more recent information easily. he seems like he'd be easy to get information from." he rubs his temples again, " anything else i should know?"

nikiri hums softly, "I have direct connections to helios in the sewer system and he is the cat ear creator."

Arakan stares at him for a long minute, " i... he's living in the sewers? wait, our district connects to theirs through the sewers?"

nikiri nods, "Yup. its closed off by a grate system but he can open it briefly when he knows im coming over. the 2nd district sewers is much cleaner than ours so its less of 'living' and more of, he has a secret lab down there in secret. The sewers are deep underground to the point that the collars gps system is stuck thinking we're just standing near a building so they dont register that we are out of bounds."
