"Have you heard there was another killing"
"Yeah, the news report said the body was shredded just like the last one"
"Yeah but that's not all their setting an city wide curfew now no one is going to be allowed on the streets after 10 o'clock"
"What? No that's so unfair just because there are a few random attacks from some animal" Some college kids talked among themselves outside during lunch.
"It's not just some random attacks, it's been two of our college mates among six people take this type of thing serious and stop whining like children" The muscular Torque said with his arms crossed. A lanyard around his neck read security. Torque had taken the job as an security guard and took his job seriously. The student glanced to him.
"But there was suppose to be a party down the street tonight" A girl whined and pouted cutely hoping to get her way and get Torque to let her and her friends go.
"Miss you better listen to me right now if I see you or any of your friends out of these dorm tonight or any night till this is dealt with you'll be expelled immediately" He said this just as the bell went off "Now return to your classes"
The students complained a bit more as they gathered their trash to toss out and recycle before returning to their classes. Torque watched the dorm ground become vacant and quiet before letting out a sigh shaking his head as he now sure where the killer was going to attack next.

In a few towns over an small though slightly taller green boy ran across an street almost getting hit by an car that slammed on the horn at him running in front of the car the begin with. "Zim's walking here" He growled out shaking his fist at the car before running the rest of the way to Dib's front door before slamming a fist against it. In his other hand hung the news paper with the killing on the front page. "Hey, Dib, Dib, Dib-stink, Yo Monkey head-Dib, Hey! Zim's yelling for you Dib show yourself Dib, Zim demands it!" He yelled in his normal annoying fashion as he still banged on the door.

Life had been going well some time after junior year of high school. Zim had stopped being a menace and surprisingly the pair of them had found friendship even if it had started off a little rocky. It was most to do with Dib's paranoia of the possibility that Zim could be planning another backstab like in the Florpus situation, but that hadn't been the case. From then on, they bonded well together and even past graduation, they continued to hang out and fight, more so play-fighting than anything serious but even that was slowly diminishing especially after Dib started up his own website and even moved out from his father's to a small apartment which even came with a downstairs office space.

It took a few years to get it looking professional and he even managed to be hired for a few jobs here and there. Of course, they wound up mostly being people playing pranks and one of them was just a possum infestation in an attic instead of a ghost but he still got paid for them. On his free time, Dib did hunt on his own if he heard rumors of spirits or various sasquatches roaming the nearest forest. It took a trip to the hospital for Zim to start inviting himself on Dib's adventures not that Dib complained. In fact, he preferred the company.

He was twenty-one now and he was following the current news closely. There were attacks and even deaths. No one was even calling him to hire him to look into it so this seemed like he would have to go it alone (with Zim) to hunt for whatever paranormal creature is shredding up its victims. He turned the television off and grabbed his coat from the hanger, heading to his door. He paused, hearing Zim's loud voice on the other side as well as banging. Dib smiled and chuckled, shaking his head. Perfect. He didn't even need to text him.

Dib opened the door. "Is it about the killings? I'm on my way to the campus now. I'm surprised you came here first. Usually I have to text you. What's up? This one's actually interesting to you?"

Once Zim fully gave in on the fact that his mission was a lie and the empire did not care about him at all he fell into an great depression and loss of meaning. He was useless to his empire and had no clue what to do. He had gotten an threatening call from Irk telling him he was banned from space. Sentenced to live the rest of his long life on Earth. They even hacked his base just long enough to destroy his vort and other things to make sure he would not leave. He still had computer and Gir. Mini moose was downgraded to make sure he couldn't be used again.
Zim had for nearly a month just sat on his couch doing nothing else as he was unable to think of anything to do he was broken. It was Gir worried about his master that reached out for Dib's help. Begging and crying till Dib had finally came over. Zim was nearly non responsive and glanced at Dib only a moment before glancing away antennas flat clearly ashamed of what he did. It took Dib a while to even get Zim to speak and even longer to bring Zim's personality back. It was the paranormal incident that landed Dib in the hospital that got Zim finally out of the base and standing next to Dib's hospital bed tearing into Dib on how reckless he was and from there deeming that Zim's new mission was keeping Dib alive. He forbid Dib from going on anymore hunts by himself and made sure to accompany him from then on. Zim even had Dib teach him about some of the paranormal. Zim though did find times where he was bored and would torture Dib with insults and light annoying teasing till the human would fight with him.

Zim gave an annoyed face and threw the newspaper at Dib's face. "Of course it's about the killings. Zim had to make sure Dib-idiot was not going to try and run off on his own. Zim's the only one allowed to end Dib's stupid life" He said crossing his arms with a light growl his around the box strange way of saying that he had to protect Dib without saying it that way. Over the time Zim had finally ditched the old wig and contacts for a hologram physical human looking body yet when in a rush like he had been today he sometimes forgot to turn it on but luckily every idiotic human in this town thought it a costume or something so it never caused Zim much trouble. That was also how he stood right now antennas up with green skin on display. Maroon eyes not catching his own mistake yet. "Zim finds it strange no one had called Dib on this one. The killings are getting more common and gruesome each day from the little info Zim was able to find about it"

It took a split second for Dib to realize Zim was fully out in his true alien form but before he could open his mouth to tell Zim about it, a newspaper was thrown in his face. "Hey!" Dib scrambled to pick up the papers before they could hit the floor when they fell and frowned. Zim really was old school, relying on newspapers for news over just watching it on television or even seeing it being spread like wildfire on the Internet. "Why do you still get newspapers?" He closed his door and locked up, figuring he could just toss the papers out in a bin outside. It's not like he needed it.

"You know I rarely run off on my own. Sometimes." He chuckled at Zim's comment about being the only one that can end his life. "Romantic," he teased. Dib knew Zim would never try to kill him. It had taken him almost a year to even realize Zim hadn't meant it while their friendship was developing. They were sort of co-dependent on each other. Like Dib himself, Zim really didn't have anyone else other than his 'family' of minions as Dib had only his family and Zim. And Zim's family, he supposed. "By the way, scatterbrain, your disguise isn't on," he piped up, patting the spot between Zim's antennas.

"I'm not surprised no one's called. They'd likely call the police. I'm a paranormal investigator and simple people would chalk this up to some human psycho killer instead of something paranormal. Not many people believe in supernatural beings, you know. What do you think it is? I know it can't be a werewolf because the attacks are happening on nights with no full moon and vampires don't do that to their victims..." Dib pondered out loud while waiting for Zim to turn on his disguise before they could leave. "We're nowhere near Mexico for it to be a chupacabra."

Zim gave a smirk as he knew he annoyed Dib with the throw before shrugging his shoulders "Gir fetches the newspaper" He answered admitting it was someone else paper but who knew which one. He rolled his eyes as he followed after him sticking his tongue out in disgust at the word romantic "Nope" His eyes widened as Dib pointed out his mistake and his antennas shifted out of the way of Dib's hand the first time Dib had tried to touch his antennas had ended in deep scratches on Dib's hand before Zim worked on fixing the wounds he had caused and made Dib promise to never try to touch them again. The hand between his antennas though was fine and Zim kind of enjoyed the familiarity of it. He mumbled out a curse in irken and turned on his disguise by a watch around his wrist. "Not like anyone cares here in our town anyway"
"Humans are always quick to blame their own kind for terrible things. Oh Zim thought Dib noticed it." He smirked and snatched the paper from Dib turning to the crime scene picture of a chalked drawn mark of where the victim was laying "Look around where the head would be" He said shoving the paper back to Dib waiting to see if Dib could make out the outline of a giant paw print below where the victims head had been it was twice the size of the head drawn in chalk but it was there.

"Could you tell Gir to stop fetching newspapers then? They're not even yours." Although Gir listening to anything any of them ask was very rare. Dib laughed as Zim realized he was out of disguise and he shrugged, moving his hand away so he wouldn't accidentally touch the antennas before Zim fixed himself properly. "Yeah, they really think you're running around in costume even when it's not Halloween."

Once Zim was 'human', Dib started heading down the steps leading out to the main door since his apartment was on the second story of the building he owned with his paranormal investigator office just under it. He headed out of the building and paused as Zim took the paper from him before he looked down at the picture. Right, the picture. That was on the news too but it seemed the newspaper had an even closer look. "That's why I thought werewolf but remembered the attack wasn't on a full moon." His eyes widened. "Oh! Then it must be a Lycan! They're the originals and can actually control their shapeshifting and can do so at any time. So we can go to the scene of the crime and check out the prints. We have your technology to pick up the tracks if they run out."

Dib took out his car keys and unlocked his car doors, slipping into the driver's seat. "Get in. It's too far for us to walk to." He put the newspaper down where the cup holders were between the two front seats.

"Zim can but it's a waste of breath as Zim has told him no multiple times before" He gave a shrug "It works so thats fine. Zim doesn't have to worry to much about the other humans around here so that's good" He said as he walked with him he nodded eagerly. Out of the paranormal creatures he learnt about both vampires and lycans seemed to be his favorite.
"Yes of course Zim's technology will be able to track the prints. He paused at Dib's car tempted to go grab the motorcycle he had spent months repairing and adding technology to but shrugged and climbed in the car. He buckled his seat belt and relaxed in his seat as he thought about what he knew about lycans and the murders so far. "Oh there is also an all around curfew after 10 for the entire city there" He pointed out not wanting to get in trouble with law enforcement again

"Around here, sure. But who knows. There could be tourists from other states who could possibly see what you are. Maybe. I don't even know why people are that blind. Maybe there's something preventing them from seeing the truth? A mystery for another time." Dib shrugged. Right now the case at hand was the murders. They could figure out why people seemed dumber than normal on another day.

Dib glanced out the window, seeing Zim hesitate to come into the car, raising an eyebrow. He shrugged when Zim finally joined him and buckled up too before starting the car. "I know about the curfew and that's really bogus. What will they do about people who work late night shifts? Besides, it's not like this culprit CAN'T attack in the daylight especially if it's a Lycan."

Dib pulled out of his parking spot and started driving to where the crime scene was. "I hope there's not too many police there. They might try to stop us from trying to investigate if there is."

"Hmm Zim just thinks all the humans are dumb on this dirt ball except Dib...and Gaz...Hmm yeah that's it as even the professor refuses to see the truth" He with a slight laugh not caring why the other humans were dumb as it was only Dib that he really cared about and maybe Gaz but she was fully capable of taking care of herself and had a easier time staying out of danger.
"Sure the Lycan can attack in the day but so far has not so it must still be hiding it's existence."

At the latest crime scene there was a small team of police and investigators trying to figured out what was the full setting of the attack. Off to the side was Torque being questioned about the student that had been killed and what he might know about it.

Dib frowned when Zim assumed all humans on Earth were dumb. He could never agree with the alien. "That's not true and you know it. Humans have just gotten a little lazier over time because of inventions that were made to make life a little easier but there are still people out there creating and learning new things, whether they be useful to Earth or not. I don't agree that all humans are stupid. Besides, we're naturally adaptable as well."

Dib shook his head. "Whoever the Lycan is HAD been hiding its existence but they got a little over-confident. They didn't even bother to cover up any tracks they've made," he said. He meant the pawprint. Why would their culprit leave that behind besides probably not noticing it.

Dib parked in the parking lot of the campus and unbuckled himself before stepping out. He saw there were a few police officers and investigators crowded around where the attack had been and grimaced. This was going to be tough. He already had a bit of a record with the police when he was younger. Sure, it was juvenile detention in his days of chasing Zim around, but it still was a smear on his record. He looked to Zim. "Think we should wait around until they leave?" he asked.

"Dib always protecting the human race even if it's against words" He said this with a sigh but just shrugged "Dib knows that Zim doesn't really care" He said as he waved it off like his comment against the humans was nothing to concern Dib about. He nodded about the lycan being careless "well maybe someone almost saw it or it did notice the paw print because the person's head had been in the way" He glanced at the police and investors making a bit of a face these people were not from their town and Zim knew none of them which made the irken a bit nervous "Uh yeah might be a good idea...Wait...isn't that Torque" Zim pointed towards the muscular guy busy talking to a couple police officers.

"Well, yeah of course. I'm a human." Dib stuck  his tongue out at the Irken. "And they're not all here to defend themselves." Dib shrugged at Zim's assumptions as to why the Lycan didn't notice its own giant paw print. "They would know that their print would leave a mark even if they didn't see it, right? Or maybe they don't care because they don't think they'll get caught by anyone. Not anyone simple like the police anyway," Dib said with a grin.

Dib didn't recognize any of the investigators present and hummed. They could be FBI, possibly. This was a pretty big issue right now so the police would need extra help. He could understand why Zim wouldn't want to get near them. He looked in the direction Zim pointed and saw he was correct. That was Torque. "Huh. Oh, it looks like he works here at the campus as security," Dib said, noticing the lanyard. That was a little surprising to him. Here he had been thinking Torque would either chase a job of being in sports. He supposed working out was a big part of security or any type of authority.

Dib wouldn't mind going over to say 'hello'. Torque was one of those peers in school that didn't bully others, usually keeping to his own unless someone bothered him in some way. Dib remembered getting Torque to be an obstacle against Zim when he was trying to keep away from the alien after taking his Pak. It was easy because all he needed to do was tell the other boy that Zim called Torque a dookie weenie and was going to beat him up and it had been enough to get Torque to tackle Zim down.

"We could go say hi to him after he's done talking to the police."

"Yeah the only human besides Gaz that sees Zim for what he is and other paranormal things too" He nodded in agreement "Dib is far from simple though" This could be taken as either an compliment or insult with it being Zim it very likely was an compliment in the form of an insult.

"Not the sorta job choice Zim thought Torque would take...but it makes sense and a good spot for Torque too...Why after its a good way to get into the crime scene maybe" Zim suggested as Torque was close to the crime scene and seemed to only be giving the officers half his attention as the other half was on the students in the court yard clearly taking his job serious even at a time like this.

"There are other humans who believe and can see paranormal and supernatural things too. Everyone in the Swollen Eyeball Network, for example." Dib laughed. "Well, yeah. I'm not ignorant of the existence of other creatures and intelligent life like most people so of course I'm not simple."

Dib nodded in agreement to Zim about Torque. "If we're lucky, Torque could allow us to get near and examine it." He hoped in this case they were. He didn't remember ever pissing Torque off or getting on his bad side in the past. He had even tried to save the other boy when Zim was harvesting organs (and failed miserably, of course). He always wondered how no one even remembered or even wondered how their organs were replaced with random objects. Sighing, he shook his head, trying not to dwell too much on the past right now.

He looked to the students that Torque was giving attention to other than the police. "Come on... hurry up and leave Torque already," he mumbled about the police.

Zim made a face as the swollen eyeball network was brought up but knew better then to bad mouth about them and instead let out a sigh a sign of defeat or his light argument.
Zim nodded in agreement and watched the interaction with Torque and the police. It was a few more minutes till the police finally walked away and things seemed to be getting wrapped up. "Should we go now then? Or wait till the police leave? Zim thinks they are packing up now". He said looking towards Dib before looking back to Torque to meet him eye to eye as Torque was now staring at them his eyes slightly narrowed though brow up in a questioning manner.
