The husband hums softly, "unfortunately no. The only other work is more delicate than anything and im sure with your claws it'd be better for you to not assist with this, though I appreciate you asking."

Ren looks at his claws, " i can remove them. however if it takes skill, it is probably best that someone who does not know what they're doing not attempt it." he shrugs, " i will see what Orion is doing and if your wife needs aid." he heads from the barn to the house.

The husband nods, "later gator!"

Missy points to a picture in the book, "so, you see, its a good idea to keep your gem from getting damaged."

Orion blinks and frowns, "i... didnt know it was inside of me... at least that much..."

Missy nods, "well its like an iceberg sweetie. You may see whats on the surface but there's more hidden at the bottom."

Renshajoh clears his throat to keep from startling them, " hey. i've done all i can for your husband, i just wanted to see if you needed anything and how Orion was doing."

Missy hums softly, "i'm good at the moment dear, thank you for asking though. Kids are already at school so the peace and quiet is lovely."

Orion grabs the book and holds it open towards ren, "look! Look!! Thats the inside of my body!! My gem actually goes inside of me and surrounds my heart!!"

Ren pulls his head back as a book is shoved at his snout. He gently pushes it so it's a readable distance and looks, " well, now that's something interesting for sure. so that thing actually goes in that far huh?"

Missy nods, "yes, although thankfully its not hard inside like it is on the surface. When galakins are mere babies their whole gem is soft and squishy. Like the membrane of an egg without the hard shell. As they grow the air causes the membrane to harden until it becomes the jewel. Since the part of the membrane inside has not been exposed to air it is still soft, allowing proper blood flow and bones to be safe."

Ren blinks, " that is... strange. though i suppose many things about many races are strange." he muses to himself, looking at his own clawed hands.

Missy nods, "Yes and when they die and decompose the whole jewel hardens with the heart inside. Depending on how much power the person had in them when they die determines if the jewel will have enough energy to become a star. Ah, but that takes years for the jewel to get to."

Orion's eyes widen and he frowns, "Wai-wait- but... wasnt the planet.... mined for jewels?"

Missy frowns and looks solemn, "Unfortunately... you are probably thinking they... mined the same jewels that i just mentioned.... and... that is correct. Im really, really sorry..."

Orion turns pale and he pushes himself out the his seat

Renshajoh's scales shift to have a slight white green tint, " you're shitting me. that's... no wonder they killed off the race, they wanted more of the damn gems. short term big profit instead of waiting for them to die naturally... bastards."

Missy frowns and nods, "and the galakin race are not fighters so it was almost too easy..."

Orion shivers and whimpers, and goes over to ren and leans against him

Ren puts an arm around him and holds him close to comfort him, not really paying attention to the action, " makes me glad there are rebels who fight them. they need to be taken out... it won;t bring the galakins back, but at least it will prevent more suffering."

Missy sighs, "Right now the only thing that could bring them back is Orion but he's way too young right now. He'll have to be kept safe for a few more years."

Ren snorts, " but wouldn;t his offspring be halfbreeds? would they even have the same traits?"

Missy shrugs, "Depends on the race he mates with and the dna. Galakins have mostly recessive traits so if HE is the one who gets someone pregnant he would have to find a race that has the same recessive dna in hopes that the dna can mix well."
