Missy smiles and closes the book,  "why dont you keep the book kid? I certainly have no use for it anymore and i don't want you to forget anything after you two leave. "

Ren blinks, " i have some coin if you would like payment for it? if you do not want it it would be nice for him to have, however we cannot take from you without giving in return."

Missy shakes her head, "my mother was allowed to borrow it from the galakins long ago. It wasn't for keeps so it's only right that it goes back into the hands of one. "

Ren looks uncomfortable but nods, " in that case then we are honored and thankful for your generosity."

She nods and rubs her arm,  "i just... want the kid to be safe.  The more he knows about himself the safer he can keep himself from others. "

Orion takes the book and nods,  "thank you..."

Ren nods, " i will do all i can. however it's out of my hands once he goes home..." he glances at Orion, " but that is his choice. i will keep him safe as long as i can."

Missy frowns, "unfortunately with a collar like that he'll have to return to whoever has the key in order to remove it. Regardless of whether he decides to stay or not. An attempt at taking it off will cost him his life. "

Orion takes the book outside so he can read it with the fresh air and so that he doesnt have to hear them talk."

Ren winces, " there is no way to pick the lock or have a new key forged?"

Missy shakes her head, "not one that has been figured out yet. The key is a special magnet that will cause the valves to the needles to close and the collar itself to pop open. Without finding a way to close those inner valves that kid will get injected with enough pentobarbital to take down a full grown hippogrif."

Ren winces at that mental image, " then regardless of his feelings we need to take him back or he'll have to wear it forever... well, it's not as if i planned to keep him from the one who owns him, he wishes to go back and while i do not agree with him, i will not stop him either. otherwise i would be no better."

Missy hums, "well he's more than likely been owned since a child so no doubt there's some grade A brainwashing going on. I suppose all you can do is give him a reason not to go back. But im sure you're already working on that."

Ren nods, " i... am trying. i fear im not doing as well as i could however. it is difficult for me to understand why he'd want to go back, but that i suppose is just part of my own culture, we reject being owned or controlled in most forms very strongly. only a willingly accepted pact is even slightly tolerated, the only exception being a mating. but even that can be broken off quite easily if needed." he sighs, " i will keep trying though, and i will keep trying to be more understanding about his mental state regarding it."

Missy nods, "I think you're doing just fine. How long have you had him away from his...owner."

Ren scratches his neck, " not even a week yet."
