Ren nods, " precisely. you have been taught basic defense, but it seems it was just enough to let you protect yourself without gaining much muscle mass. your... employer did not want you to be too strong, for aesthetic and likely security reasons. so if you wish, i will teach you what i can."

Orion nods and gets up, "yeah! Train me! I want to get strong!"

Ren chuckles softly and gets up, starting with some stretches to get them both limbered up.

Orion gets off his bed and stretches, smiling, "go easy on me okay? Ive probably been trained on your kind of fighting."

Ren chuckles, " i know enough to not harm one i am trying to teach." he keeps his claws tucked in as he makes a few feints, pulling short each time.

Orion keeps his distance, making sure he doesnt get hit regardless if it was a feint or not.

Ren presses him back, trying to pin him against a wall to keep him from being able to keep backing up.

there's not much that orion can do against someone ren's size. this style of training was very different from how his teacher did it as well. usually he was walked through the fight with instructions.
He feels himself back into the wall

Ren lunges forward before gently tapping Orions neck with his claws, " don;t let yourself get cornered."

Orion flinches slightly, pouting, "well i cant do much against someone your size. Ive always been better with dodging and running."

Ren chuckles, " and that is what you ought to do. you cannot take me in hand to hand combat. now, in this case i would have memorized the room so that i knew where i was, and anytime you get close to being cornered i would try and move so you have more room to your back again."

Orion blinks, "memorizing a room that i havent spent more than half a day in? I assume thats something you could do."

Ren nods, " that is one of the first things they drill into us, an ability to memorize our surroundings after just a few moments. it allows you to know where everything is and where potential escape routes are. it is something you ought to train yourself to learn."

Orion nods, "i suppose that also makes sense since you shed. Being able to memorize where everything is when you're blind is needed."

Ren blinks, " yes, that does help. i have other senses that help with that as well however, a heightened sense of smell, and some heat pits along my jaw for example." he lifts his head and gently traces the small indents, " these help me 'see' when i cannot see. but it takes more effort than seeing with my eyes does, so i only focus on that when i must. that skill is something we learned to do because our predators often know the sea better than we do, and a small hiding spot seen out of the corner of ones eye may be the difference between life and death when the large predators are on the prowl suddenly when we are hunting."
