as the demons get dispersed both upset and grateful takana finds himself frozen in his spot, eyes wide as he stares at the ground. he was speechless, or in shock. he wasnt too sure which but all he could do was stay still, trying to catch his breath as he begins to shake.
why did they kill him? That would only make matters worse. they werent supposed to... this wasnt what- no one told him that humans were killing demons!

Arakan makes sure everyone is going inside and notices Takana, walking over, " go inside, get some rest."

Takana snaps out of his trance when arakan approaches him and he stares at the demon before his eyes begin to water, his ears droop almost to an odd lifeless appearance and he sniffles, choking back a the urge to sob before wiping his face, "wh-why? why did they have to do that?"

Arakan sighs, " you've been sheltered from the way things are, which makes this more difficult. This is just the way things are, because they're weaker than us they feel the need to ensure we know that they are in control, not us."

Takana sniffles and wipes his face again, "we're supposed to be equals. we're-" he sobs and whimpers, "Those kids....that poor family..."

Arakan snorts, " equals? a pretty lie told to help the humans to sleep at night. Same with the lies that we enjoy our collars and willingly stay in our districts. Pretty words so that the subjugation of an entire race is acceptable."

Arakan sighs and glances around to make sure everyone has gone into their homes before putting a hand on Takana's shoulder. " It's hard, believe me i know. I should have realized they may have needed aid, and that when i checked on them they were not truthful. perhaps they hoped the inspections in this district were more lenient than their previous district. i do not know. They will be taken care of, i promise this."

Takana hiccups softly, "I just....they lost their father... they'll have nightmares for sure. I wish i could have stopped it..."

Arakan shakes his head, " there is no way you could have prevented it. my father was unable even to persuade them to stop, had any lesser demon, including myself, dared to speak with them as he did, they would have died as well. you would have wasted your life pointlessly trying."

Takana shudders and rubs his arms. There's nothing he could really say to that. He wasnt going to retort with any self deprecating comments regardless of how true they felt simply because he felt it would take away from the current tragedy.
He manages to calm himself down a little, enough to stop from crying at any rate, "what....is going to happen to them? You said they'll be taken care of but will they be alright?"

Arakan tilts his head a bit, " well, we're not going to kill them if that's what you're implying. No, their things will be moved to our community center, where it'll be seen to that they have all of the essentials. They'll be given time to recover, and the kids will be watched when their mother is able to work again. whatever they need will be provided. it's not a luxurious life, but they will be given all they need to get by until they're able to support themselves, however long that may take."

Takana shakes his head, "i wasnt implying that. Far from it honestly... i just wasnt sure if it was just going to be monetary help or if life skiils would be taught to try to fill in a missing family member or something... i cant do much but i can cook so... as much as i dont really care to be around kids i could still make sure they get food if the mom is out at work or.... i dont know.... dont listen to me. Im just rambling because i feel awful for them..."

Arakan nods, " the offer is appreciated, but not needed. though perhaps i will see about bringing them one of your special dishes now and then as a treat. you will probably want to lower the spice level for them though." he raises an eyebrow as he looks at Takana, " they will be given whatever aid they need. as much as i hate to say it they're not the first to have this happen, and they won't be the last. even families who either take the aid we offer or are able to keep their collars maintained by their own funds sometimes have mishaps. It's not common, but if a collar burns out just before inspection, there's not much we can do. regardless, it's something we have under control. we take care of our own, which you are now included in."

Takana snorts, "i only made it that spicy because it was for you. No normal person could handle that amount of ghost peppers. And i shouldnt be included. Im clearly an asshole. And i want to find a way back to my family.... or at least the ones that still care about me..."
